ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Freshman catcher/utility Kealia Wysocki (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
Wysocki hit .385 for the week and scored or drove in 60 percent of Bradley’s runs in five outings last week as she collected two doubles and two home runs among her five hits. She drove in six runs in five games and boasted a .500 on base percentage to go with a 1.000 slugging percentage.
In a midweek doubleheader at league-leading Illinois State, Wysocki went 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, two runs scored, five RBI and two walks, including one intentional free pass. She had hits in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against Drake to stretch her season-best hit streak to five games. Wysocki had one of two Bradley hits in the opener against the Bulldogs with a double. She drove in a run in the nightcap in a 1-for-4 performance. Her six home runs this season lead the team and rank as the second-best total by a Bradley freshman.
Over the last six games, Wysocki is hitting a team-best .471 (8-for-17) with two doubles and two home runs to go with a .550 on base percentage and .941 slugging percentage. She is hitting .311 in MVC play with four doubles and four home runs. Six of her last 16 hits have been home runs and 10 of her last 16 hits have been for extra bases.
The MVC Newcomer of the Week award is the first of 2017 for a Brave and she is the first Bradley individual to take home MVC Newcomer of the Week honors since 2015.
Wysocki and the Bradley Softball team close out a season-long, four-game home stand Tuesday with a 4 p.m. game against Illinois State at Petersen Hotels Field at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.
