ACES 14u Takes 5th place in prestigious PGF Premier tournament!

The 14u ACES had to be several ranked teams on their journey to finish 5th at the PGF Premier tournament this August.

The week started with a showcase game against highly regarded Firecrackers Brashears/Thornburg. After capturing the lead in the 1st inning, ACES never looked back and won 4-1.

In Day 1 of Bracket play, ACES faced Sudden Impact.  A top 20 FloSoftball team that won PGF Premier last year in the 12u division.  Star pitcher Alicia Estrada threw a shutout game and the ACES won 5-0 with not a singe error in the field!

Day 2 brought on a game against a “team to watch” in PGF, the Atlanta Vipers.  Who ranked 7th in the Nation!  In this low scoring affair, the ACES came out victorious in a 2-1 win.

Day 3 kept bringing on the heat, and the ACES played CA Breeze Birch.  A team led by the former Sooner all star pitcher.  Another top 20 ranked team.  Alicia Estrada struck out 13 batters and did not allow a single hit!  While Allison Gasper went 2-3 in batting to give the ACES a 1-0 win!

In the evening of Day 3, the ACES had to face #2 ranked SoCal Choppers Fausett.  After 7 innings of fierce battling, the score was tied at 0-0!  In an international tie breaker, the Choppers laid down a suicide bunt to score 1 run and win the game.

On Day 4, the final day of bracket play, the ACES were ready to fight again.  The ACES took on another ranked team, Universal Fastpitch.  Who had a duo of left handed pitchers committed to Oregon.  ACES struggled to start and soon found themselves down 4-1 going into the 6th inning.  After Universal walked 2 batters, Lexi Garza hit a triple to bring the game within 1 run.  In the 7th inning, Kylie Chung, with 1 runner on base knocked a home run over the left field fence to give the ACES the 5-4 win!!!

After that exciting 2.5 hour win, the ACES went on to face the Tampa Mustangs.  Unfortunately, the ACES ran out of steam and lost 2-0 in a tight battle.

The 14u ACES finished PGF Premier in 5th place out of 73 of the top teams in the nation!  What an amazing week of softball for these girls.  The ACES organization is very proud of the dedication and hard work these girls put in this summer!  GO ACES!
