Chico State softball player Karli Skowrup.

Junior infielder bats .375 with three extra-base hits vs. Cal State Monterey Bay

While the top of the Chico State softball team’s batting order has produced the majority of run production this season, the bottom of the lineup has been generating its share of offense in recent weeks. One of the biggest producers of late has been Karli Skowrup, and last weekend the junior posted her most consistent numbers of the year against No. 7 Cal State Monterey Bay, delivering three extra-base hits and leading the ‘Cats in runs batted in. Skowrup’s impressive contributions at the dish make her the latest Wildcat of the Week.

Skowrup batted .375 in the four games against the Otters, racking up six hits and 16 at-bats. The Thousand Oaks product belted a pair of doubles and a triple while driving in a team-high five runs.

Skowrup’s biggest single game was Friday’s series opener, when she went 2-for-4 with a double and a career-high four RBI in the Wildcats’ 7-1 win over the Otters. In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, Skowrup included a double among her three hits and drove in a run in a 12-inning, 9-8 loss.

Skowrup, who hit her first home run as a Wildcat just two weeks ago, has set new single-season career highs in hits, runs scored, doubles and extra-base hits in 2017.

Skowrup and the Wildcats will be home this Friday and Saturday battling Sonoma State in the final series of the regular season, with a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament berth on the line.
